Relocation of operations for a borough council in County Durham, UK: When the council needed to relocate to better facilities, they turned to Octane to ensure a safe and reliable end-to-end solution. Octane were already providing service and maintenance for the council’s fuel operations so were the natural choice to provide specialist advice and proposals for a new tank and fuel island facility at a pre-chosen location. Octane supplied a split compartment 36,000ltr / 9,000ltr Fully Bunded above ground storage tank. As the new location had no services and no adequate drainage to support such an installation, Octane cleared the car park area and began by installing a 10,000ltr forecourt interceptor and all drainage connection. A dual containment pipework refuelling facility was installed a with raised pump island (to accommodate 3 existing pumps) complete with alarm system and new electrics. Octane’s new fuel management to interface was also installed to that electronic gauges can ‘talk’ directly to the MCS Fuel management system, allowing Council officers to see the stock online any time and from any location that has an Internet connection. The new online “Real Time” fuel management system means that the man-hours required to reconcile fuel stocks and fleet control reports have dropped significantly, saving time and money. We continue to carry out all repair and maintenance work for this council facility.

Emergency contamination clean-up, repair and reinstatement for a metropolitan council in Yorkshire, UK: This emergency project involved not only working alongside the Environment Agency to establish the severity of the contamination, but also the clean-up and re-establishment of a vital fueling facility. Octane were asked to investigate a leak at one of the local council fuelling locations. Working with the Environment Agency, Octane’s tests confirmed a leaking tank, which required the excavation of the area and the removal of diesel and contaminated soils. The emergency clean-up operation included the removal of two thirds of the fuelling island and the surrounding area, in excess of 200 tons of contamination in total. Once the area had been validated and certified as clean, the area was then backfilled with clean material and work on reinstatement of the facility was undertaken. The new facility included the installation of new dual containment fuel lines as well as man-hole chambers for each of the 3 tanks on site. A completely new concrete fuel island incorporating a new 10,000ltr forecourt separator and alarm system was installed alongside an Aco drainage system with all connections for the fuel island to operating within the Pollution Prevention Guidelines. Once these works were carried all the tanks on site were fully relined and retested. Certification was issued and the fuel island was back in service in 6 weeks.

Fuel System Installation for on of the UK's leading food and drink wholesaler in Hatfield: This major turnkey solution involved not only the comprehensive refurbishment of internal tanks but also the installation of replacement lines, Aco drainage, new concrete tank pads and as well as the relocation of bunker tanks and pumps. New lines, stainless steel isolation valves and leak detection systems were installed alongside relocated Bunker tanks which were emptied, cleaned, reconditioned and lifted onto a new bespoke re-enforced concrete tank-pad and crash protection posts. The internal tanks were thoroughly de-gassed, cleaned and "de-sludged" using a vacuum tanker and a confined space team with all waste disposed of at a licenced facility. A temporary 76,000ltr hire tank and pumps were installed to dispense fuel to wagons and minimise disruption during the works CAT scans were undertaken prior to all work, with excavation of the site and waste removal conducted under all health and safety legislation (including removal and storage of existing block paving so that it could be reused in the final construction). The whole location was tested and certified as part of the commissioning process.
